Potty training is a serious issue and many pets get given up to a shelter or pound because of going potty inside the house.  We teach potty training and crate training and obedience all as one.  The basic way we handle potty training is to start eliminating accidents in the house.  The first way we do this is teach the dog a solid, 100% “come” command.   Most dogs once reprimanded a couple times will not use the bathroom right in front of the owners but will sneak off to other parts of the house to potty.  We fix this by first teaching a solid “come” command.

Second, we teach a control command such as “place”.  ”Place” means jump on something and stay their until your released (chair, stool, dog bed, fireplace, etc).  When we are not able to watch the dog we control them with a “place” command so they can not sneak off and do their business.  Most dogs will not potty while “placing” on a chair or stool.  So instead of putting them outside or in their crate we can keep them with us but if we’re busy or working and not watching them we put them in a “place” so they cant sneak off and dirty on the carpet.
