Best Sterling Heights Michigan Dog Training knows that there are three main sources of aggressive behaviors. A common one is a protective behavior. This is the need to guard and protect the yard, house, a person, or even a resource. We also deal with a lot of learning behaviors. This means that your dog will respond to stimuli in an aggressive way in order to get its way. I.e. the cute Pomeranian does not want to get off the sofa so it some bites at mom when asked to get down. In doing so, the cute pup learns that she can get her way by such a show of aggression. There’s also genetically linked behavior which means that your dog’s aggressive behavior has been somewhat hardwired into its DNA. Some dogs are born predisposed to be more human or dog aggressive based on their prior genetics. Dog like this can still be helped, but the aggression is never truly resolved.

Fixed versus controlled aggression. Fixed means that the aggression behaviors are well, fixed. This means we are able to teach your canine companion that those aggressive behaviors that they are engaging and are no longer appropriate and give our clients the tools to continue to reinforce the new boundaries. Control to manage aggression means that we have taught your dog to behaviors we would like to see and what is no longer allowed. Your dog understands right from wrong behaviors, but the dogs drive for certain behavior is so strong that it will not exhibit self-control unless its leader is right there forcing it to. I.e. unless you are controlling or managing your dog’s behavior.

If you are unsure why your dog is being truly aggressive, this is something we can evaluate and are initialed first one dollar lesson. We know at Best Sterling Heights Michigan Dog Training that most dogs are mentally and emotionally the same as a 45-year-old child. Some 45-year-old children are more obedient than others and some are more strong-willed, but at the end of the day, they are all children. They still need some parental guidance to some degree to help to make a decisions until they are able to make good decisions on their own. Which for some dogs, never happens is a do not keep maturing mentally and emotionally like children do.

Best Sterling Heights Michigan Dog Training like to provide you with a fixed behavior and controlled manage behavior example. Little Richard used to eat cookies before dinner, but now doesn’t eat cookies before dinner because he knows mommy doesn’t allow it. Little Richard knows right from wrong, he knows that he will disappoint moment he misbehaves and he also knows that there is consequences that he does not want and so he does not eat a cookie. This is fixed behavior. Now, little Johnny knows he should not eat cookies or for dinner and he knows that if he does he will get in trouble. But if mommy leaves the room and is not watching him, the little Johnny will run for the cookies anything as fast as he can and will hopefully not get caught. The difference in these two examples depends on the child. At the little kids drive is high enough for cookies, he may risk upsetting mom and getting a timeout or spanking if he values a cookie and a. As humorous as this may seem, this is how dogs are.

Now let’s individually go over these aggressions so you know you’re getting the best experience with Best Sterling Heights Michigan Dog Training. Fixed aggression means that the aggressive behaviors are fixed. This means we are able to teach your canine companion that those aggressive behaviors that they are engaging and are no longer appropriate and give our clients the tool to continue to reinforce the new boundaries. What happens is your dog, being a pack animal, falls in line with your new role and no longer exhibit so’s behavior as they now understand that the leader has prohibited them. Some dogs that have had issues for a while, take longer periods of reinforcement and some issues, will never truly go away 100%. We’re just here to make them better.

With older dog, we never truly know we can 100% fix issues or can just get better control. Most dogs have to be controlled and managed to us situations were. The time and some are never 100% trustworthy, but you have to remember dogs cannot be reasoned with. At their core being, they are still animals. Will civilize and identified as children, they still have primitive nature that cannot always be 100% overruled. But don’t worry, we’re here to equip you with the tactic second best handle your fluffy pet.
