Help for Bolting

Ryan agreed to help us with our dog, Sidewalk Salli, and we couldn’t be happier! She had a tendency to slip out an open door and run just far enough for you to see her. As you approached, she would run again. UGH! Very frustrating! Ryan worked with Salli for 2 weeks and patiently taught us how to continue Salli’s training at home. She has made incredible gains and we are so pleased with Ryan’s services. We would highly recommend him to anyone with “challenging” furry friends :)

Help for a Scared Dog

We have a White German Sheppard who, since we got her at 9 weeks, now 8 months old and except for my wife and two sons is absolutely terrified of everyone else (will start shaking and dart off, if she is held in place will relieve herself). We got with Ryan to start training her and within just the first session she went from completely terrified to partially timid, it was amazing!! The first 10 minutes consisted of her running a circle around him which he had to stop himself from getting dizzy twice! After that he was able to get her to come and sit on a leash and then was able to come in the house with other guests and she was able to sit still and allow people to pet her with no problems! It seemed like this day would never come! I would definitly recommend him to others especially if they think a dog is a lost cause, her behavior has been improving every day!

You guys are fantastic! Your training has given us a set of tools to work with and have fun with our German Shepherd. He is happier and we are grateful. Given that he was so young and immature, the job you have done is amazing. I have three friend who will be using our services! Thanks so much. You guys are a real blessing.

  2. We have a new, black, 2-year old rescue lab. She’s strong, she’s fast, she’s super energetic. When we first got her she’d get these scary, crazy eyes that rolled back into her head whenever she saw another dog or a squirrel…and then she’d bolt. If we didn’t let her out or feed her quickly enough, she barked & jumped all over us with the crazy-eyes. (It was scary!) We had read training manuals, we tried the prong collar, we invested in a top-of-the-line harness; none of this was enough for us to walk her in public. After she physically dragged me through a neighbor’s yard, I gave up because it wasn’t safe for me or for her.

Then, out of desperation, I contacted Tip-Top for the free, at-home demo. I was super sceptical. The uniformed trainer arrived in a clearly marked van. He unloaded his dog and the two of them performed remarkable tricks and tasks all over my yard & in the street while my dog tried to bark and eat her way through the front window. It was very impressive, but that dog had clearly been trained for years and was nothing like the beast in my house. Finally, the trainer came into my house, and in under an hour had my dog gladly — tail was wagging — obeying several basic commands. (I could hardly believe my eyes…and then they misted up, because maybe my dog wasn’t hopeless afterall.)

We’ve only had the dog 3 months now. I walk her in public. We go to the park and train with a class full of other dogs. She sits, she stays, she stops barking, she comes, she heels — all in a public place with a bunch of other dogs. Does she do these things for me every time/all the time? No. Will she eventually do these things for me every single time? Yes. These people performed a miracle on my new baby. Awesome — literally, awesome. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Tip Top K9 is fantastic! We were a 3 dog household and recently rescued a 4th dog – a 1 year old Blue Heeler. Our once calm home turned to chaos at meal times, walking times, and when we’d get ready to go to the dog park. The new dog, while very sweet and gentle, is high energy and had some very undesirable behaviors – jumping, digging, chewing, mouthing.

We’ve been training with Ryan for 4 weeks now. After the first week, Bounce was already more focused in general (no more crazy eyes). By week 2 he had almost completely stopped jumping up on people. Now when people come to the door, we can let them in and Bounce will sit down nicely and wait for attention.

Bounce has continued to learn a lot of new commands and everything new seems to help him to have more self control and less of the undesirable behaviors. My family and I could not be more pleased with our results so far and we look forward to continuing Bounce’s training in group classes.

  4. I have had my adopted rescue German Shepherd, Nala, in training with TipTopK9 since February, 2012 and have been very pleased with the results! Nala knew next to nothing when she came to live with me – was very timid, afraid of everything, would run away from me and hide, zero self-confidence, and somewhat of an attachment disorder. When I started with Ryan, my only objective was to have Nala walk around the block without pulling my arm out of socket! But with Ryan’s help and encouragement to both Nala and me, she has learned to sit, stay, come, place and heel – and to such a level that I can walk her off leash just about anywhere and she ignores distractions and remains under command. I take Nala everywhere with me, and she always gets praise for her excellent calm behaviour. She has gained so much self confidence, and we love the group classes where Ryan makes learning fun for all of us! Thanks to TipTop, we are well on our way toward our goal of Nala becoming a volunteer as a Tulsa County court therapy dog! I highly recommend this training and the staff at TipTop – extremely professional, and their enthusiasm is contagious!

  5. Chuck Morton and Reggie says:

While doing a lot of research on dog trainers in Tulsa, I stumbled on Tip Top K9 Tulsa Dog Training. I happened to be at a location where Ryan was conducting a group class. I’ve always believed that a well behaved dog lives a happier life. They get scolded less, they get to spend more time with their owners and they are less likely to get injured or lost because they run into the street or run off. A well trained dog usually has a better temperament, has less anxiety and is less destructive. I recently got a Vizsla puppy with the intentions of having it involved in my business. He’ll be around people a lot and needs to NOT be a distraction. By nature he’s a very active dog and his parents are both heavily titled as field trial champions. So the challenge was not only to train Reggie, but do so in a manner that didn’t cancel out all of his natural characteristics and traits that were bred into him.
I observed Ryan working with a variety of dogs…all sizes, breeds and ages. Little dogs that weigh a few pounds and other dogs that are very, very large. His techniques seem to work equally well on all dogs. Reggie is picking up quickly on the techniques that Ryan is using while at the same time not losing the traits that I need and want him to retain. Ryan does an excellent job of making adjustments while training to accomplish what I want while keeping Reggie…Reggie.
I brought Reggie into the office for the first time today and he did great. He’s turning out to be the companion that I was hoping for. One of the many benefits of Ryan’s program is its duration. Since it’s for the life of the dog, I’ll continue to get professional guidance as Reggie grows up and enters different stages of his life. Thanks Ryan…job well done!!!

  6. Becky Tiernan says:

Ryan and Robert are awesome! Houdini, our Husky puppy is super smart, super stubborn, and super curious. He got into everything – including medicine (can open cabinets), chewed furniture and shoes, and wouldn’t stop biting us. Traditional training techniques did NOT work on this dog. These men worked with Houdini and us, including a short boot camp for the dog, and with their guidance and the collar, we now have the family pet we anticipated when we brought home that adorable puppy five months ago. If you’re concerned about the collar, don’t be. Think of it as ADD meds for dogs. It is a reminder to pay attention to a command. It is not used as negative reinforcement like some other trainers use them, so the dog’s spirit is not broken. Houdini is still just as curious and silly as ever, he just minds us when we give him a command, now.
